What Is a Rose de Mer Peel?

Rose de Mer is a botanical peel made from marine plants, sea minerals, algae, vitamins, and a fine powder of freshwater coral. Instead of relying on chemical acids, it uses these natural ingredients and a focused massage technique to encourage your skin’s own renewal process.

Over the next several days, the outer layer of skin gently dries and sheds, making way for fresh, healthy-looking skin underneath. It’s a resurfacing facial treatment that works with your skin, not against it, and it’s suitable for a wide range of skin types and ages.

Why Our Clients Love It

  • Brighter, more even tone: softens the look of sun spots, dark spots, and post-breakout marks
  • Smoother texture: helps refine rough patches and the appearance of pores
  • Clearer skin: helps calm breakouts and balance excess oil
  • A firmer look over time: supports healthy-looking, more resilient skin
  • Better results from your home care: freshly renewed skin absorbs serums and moisturizers more effectively
  • A healthy glow: boosts circulation for that rested, radiant look

How It Works

Your esthetician massages the Rose de Mer formula into your skin by hand. Tiny coral particles gently stimulate the surface while the massage creates warmth and boosts circulation, bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients to the area. This controlled stimulation signals your skin to repair and renew itself.

While that’s happening, marine minerals, antioxidants, and algae-based hydrators nourish and protect. The result is a gradual, natural peel that clears away dull, damaged surface cells and reveals fresher skin beneath.

What to Expect

During your treatment: You’ll feel warmth and a tingling, prickly sensation as the formula is massaged in. It’s active, but very manageable, and your esthetician will check in with you throughout.

Days 1–2: Skin may look slightly flushed and feel tight. Most clients go about their day as usual.

Days 3–5: Light to moderate peeling or flaking. This is the renewal at work. Keep skin moisturized and resist the urge to pick.

After the peel: Fresh, smooth, brighter-looking skin. Plan your peel about a week before any big event.

Is Rose de Mer Right for You?

  • Sun damage and uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation and dark spots
  • Acne and post-acne marks
  • Dull, tired-looking skin
  • Rough texture and enlarged-looking pores
  • Early signs of aging

Rose de Mer may not be recommended if you are pregnant or nursing, currently using or recently used prescription acne medications or retinoids, or have active skin infections, open wounds, sunburn, or certain skin conditions. We’ll review your skin history before your appointment to make sure it’s the right choice for you.

Before & After Care

Before: Pause retinoids, exfoliants, and facial waxing as directed by your esthetician, and avoid heavy sun exposure.

After: Keep skin hydrated, wear SPF daily, skip makeup for the first day if you can, and let the skin shed on its own. We’ll send you home with simple, clear aftercare instructions and product recommendations.

Rose de Mer Peel FAQs

No. It’s a botanical peel that uses marine plants, minerals, and natural ingredients rather than chemical acids.

You’ll feel warmth and tingling during the massage. Most clients describe it as intense but very tolerable.

Very little. Expect visible flaking for a few days, typically days 3 through 5. Most people keep up with their normal routine.

You’ll notice a difference after one peel. For deeper concerns like pigmentation or acne marks, a series usually gives the best results.

Fall and winter are ideal here in Connecticut, when sun exposure is lower. That said, Rose de Mer can be done year-round with diligent SPF use.

We recommend giving your skin a break for the first 24 hours. After that, gentle mineral makeup is usually fine. Questions? Call us at (860) 323-3660.
